Membership & Award Nomination

The Northwest Barrel Horse Association (NWBHA) has districts in Washington, Oregon, and North Idaho. NWBHA is proud to produce one of the largest regional barrel races in the Pacific Northwest, with over $22,000 in added money and $45,000 in awards.

District 03 spans Adams, Asotin, Garfield, and Whitman Counties in Washington, and Latah, Nez Perce, Lewis, Clearwater, and Idaho Counties in Idaho.

Membership Scenarios

"I'm not interested in awards, I just want to enter and run. What do I need to do?"

You do not need a NWBHA membership to compete at District 3 races, nor do you need to nominate your horse for district points. Just enter, and have fun!

"I've heard that NWBHA Finals is a blast - how do I qualify?"

Well friend, you’ve heard right!

You will need a current NWBHA Membership, and to qualify by competing at 3 NWBHA sanctioned races. If they are co-sanctioned races, you will need to pay the $3 NWBHA fee for that race to count as a qualifier. NWBHA prime races (like our District 3 races) do not have the additional $3 fee.

“I want a shot at district awards! Tell me what I need!”

You will need a current NWBHA Membership, to nominate your horse in each class you’d like to earn points in, and compete in at least 50% of our District 3 points races.

If you submit 1 nomination per class, points will be based on rider. If you submit 2+ nominations in a class, points will be based on horse/rider.

"What about the Pee Wees?"

Pee Wees do NOT need a NWBHA Membership and do NOT need to have 3 qualifying races to attend NWBHA Finals.

***If your Pee Wee would like to earn District 03 awards, they will need to nominate their horse, and compete in at least 50% of our District 3 points races.

District 03 Award Nominations & Rules

Nominations are based on RIDER. If a rider chooses to nominate once per class, they will only earn points for their fastest time. If a rider chooses to nominate more than once per class, their points will be specific to the horse they nominate
Contestant must enter at least of 50% of races to be award eligible
For 2024, there is a $25 fee per nomination per class (Open, Youth, and Senior). $10 fee for Pee Wee
Any season-end ties will be broken by total money earned in that D. If neither contestant earns money in that D, total earnings in that class will be used. If neither contestant earns money in that class, total race count will be used.
Points are awarded as follows: 10 points for 1st place, 9 points for 2nd place, 8 points for 3rd place, 7 points for 4th place, 6 points for 5th place, 5 points for 6th place, 4 points for 7th place, 3 points for 8th place, 2 points for 9th place, and 1 point for 10th place in each D.
Points will be counted from the date of nomination and payment forward. If a person nominates later in the season, any placing earned previously will not be counted
Nominated individuals will only compete against other nominated individuals for points. Non-nominated individuals will compete for jackpot payout but will not receive points.
- Example: Susie 1st in the 2D (nominated) 10 points
- Mary 2nd in the 2D (not nominated)
- Lisa 3rd in the 2D (not nominated)
- Barb 4th in the 2D (nominated) 9 points
If a non-nominated individual wins the 1D and sets the D times, points will be awarded after using the fastest nominated horse/rider to calculate point distribution.
If an individual earns points in more than one D, they will be awarded the highest placing earned. If an individual receives the same placing in multiple Ds, they will be awarded the highest D earned.
